Accounting & Payroll Associate


10,000 Degrees is the premier college access and success organization in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area. The ideal candidate for this position will be a strong project manager with strong relationship and time management skills and with an ability to effectively manage a variety of tasks and relationships both internally and externally. Position Purpose

The Accounting & Payroll Associate provides assistance to the Accounting/HR Manager in ensuring that the Payroll and Financial systems are working efficiently to support achievement of 10,000 Degrees’ goals.


  • Assist with Human Resource functions including new hire onboarding, forms compliance, benefits enrollment.
  • Assist with payroll functions including tracking and processing employee timecards.
  • Perform reconciliations of employee PTO balances.
  • Maintain Accounts/Pledges Receivable including account maintenance, AR data entry.
  • Record monthly/daily transactions for affiliate company.
  • Perform monthly detail reconciliations of GL accounts. Provide additional GL account detail analysis as needed.
  • Assist Finance Director and Accounting Manager in preparing reports for monthly meeting of the Board of Directors, assist in follow‐through between meetings.
  • Participate in annual audit preparation and fieldwork.
  • Maintain filing systems and perform misc. accounting tasks as needed.


  • Minimum 5 years experience in accounting and 2 years payroll processing/HRM experience.
  • Non‐profit experience a plus.
  • Sound understanding of accounting principles.
  • Strong MS Excel, written and verbal communication skills.
  • BA/BS degree, preferably in related field.
  • Ability to work effectively with all 10,000 Degrees constituencies and staff.
  • Impeccable judgment and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, prioritization and time management skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple responsibilities consistently and accurately.
