San Rafael High graduate raises $23,000 for local scholarship to honor his teacher.

Ernesto Vilchis was a high school freshman and spoke only about 50 words of English when his family moved from Mexico to San Rafael in 1991. The transition wasn't easy, but thanks to hard work and support from his teachers at San Rafael High School, Vilchis went on to earn an undergraduate degree in economices from the University of California at Berkeley and dual master's degrees in public policy and urban planning from Princeton University.
