Academic Support

10,000 Degrees Academic Support (formerly Marin County School Volunteers) matches adult volunteer tutors with public school students in classrooms, homework centers, and community programs. We provide on-going workshops for experienced volunteer tutors as well as orientations and trainings to assist new volunteer tutors.

Established in 1997, the organization began with 40 volunteers in five Marin County public schools supporting high need students from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds, including English Learners. Academic Support now has more than 300 volunteers serving more than 5,000 students in 25 Marin County schools providing highly-personalized academic tutoring, classroom support, and homework assistance.

At 10,000 Degrees, we believe every student deserves the opportunity to fulfill their dreams and positively impact their communities. In conjunction with our college access and college success programming, Academic Support helps students from low-income backgrounds get the hands-on assistance and one-on-one encouragement they need to succeed in the classroom and beyond.
