The 10,000 Degrees HR Generalist position is an integral part of the 10,000 Degrees mission to support students from low-income backgrounds to and through college to positively impact their communities and the world. At 10,000 Degrees, we believe that education is the foundation of a just and equitable society. Students and their families as well as schools and local leaders each play a critical role in educating the next generation and strengthening the economic vitality and social health of our communities. The students we serve are 100% from low income communities; 89% Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian Pacific Islander, and People of Color; and 85% first generation students.  

We are looking for a Human Resources Generalist  to join 10,000 Degrees. In this position you will be responsible for activities involving benefit administration, leaves of absence, recruitment, and will coordinate and carry out other HR projects and processes as assigned.  A strong background in benefit administration is necessary to be successful in this role.  You will also help maintain positive employee relations and work to ensure staff’s satisfaction through education of HR policies and by fostering a positive work environment.

Responsibilities

Benefit Administration

  • Ensures the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in the HRIS to provide vendors with accurate eligibility information.
  • Distributes all benefits enrollment materials, determines eligibility, and enrolls employees with carriers and processes life status changes.
  • Responds to benefits inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes and other general inquiries.
  • Reviews monthly all employee benefit invoices for accuracy. Reconciles and tracks discrepancies.

401(k) Administration

  • Responds to 401(k) inquiries from managers and employees relating to enrollments, plan changes, and contribution amounts.
  • Reviews, reconciles, and submits bi-weekly retirement fund contributions in a timely and accurate manner.

Leaves of Absences

  • Responsible for administration of all employee leave of absence requests (Protected, Unprotected, FMLA, CFRA, PDL, military, etc.) including correspondence with employees, maintaining logs and proper medical documentation to support short-term and long-term disability.
  • Ensures accurate, timely communication with payroll to ensure employees receive the correct compensation and benefit coverage, i.e. coordinated benefits, use of accruals, etc. during leave of absence.

Recruitment and Hiring

  • Assists with recruitment and interview process. Post jobs, tracks status of candidates and responds with follow-up letters at the end of the recruiting process. Reviews applications of internal and external applicants and recommends applicants for interviews based on qualifications as set forth by the job description of the position.
  • Ensures all job descriptions are received, reviewed, standardized and uploaded into our drive.
  • Participates in job fairs, career center activities when necessary.
  • Tracks and maintains current documentation and certifications for background checks, I-9, COVID vaccination cards, Harassment Prevention, etc.

Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

For this position, we believe that you will be the most successful if you have the following:

Professional Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field or 4+ years related experience
  • Experience with administering employee group benefit programs from implementation, to billing, to auditing.
  • Experience with California employment law
  • Knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements, affecting employee benefits programs, including ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, workers’ compensation.
  • SHRM-CP or PHR certification preferred.

  • Working understanding of HR principles, practices, and procedures.

Location

This position is currently a hybrid role and you will be expected to have in-person presence in San Rafael, CA.

Compensation Package

  • This is a full-time, exempt position, with a maximum salary of $75,000
