How You’ll Help Us Achieve Our Mission

One of 10,000 Degrees strategic goals is to significantly grow and sustain financial support. Broadening our impact across the Bay Area will depend on increasing the effectiveness of our fundraising and communication efforts. The Marketing & Communications Manager will play a key role in helping to achieve this vision. They will work closely with Marketing and Development to develop tactical and strategic marketing communication campaigns that raise our visibility among target audiences.

Bringing strong writing and communications skills and experience to the role, the Marketing & Communications Manager will understand how to write everything from a persuasive development appeal to attention-grabbing advertising copy to a compelling social media post, all in alignment with the 10,000 Degrees brand identity. As Brand Officer, the Marketing & Communications Manager will make sure that all public-facing materials and communications are aligned with our brand. The Marketing & Communications Manager will also support occasional initiatives by the virtual engagement, program, and scholarship teams.

The Opportunity

Marketing & Communications

  • Under the guidance of the Director of Marketing & Communications, develop ongoing marketing strategies and communication campaigns that raise brand awareness, increase engagement, further fundraising efforts, and are differentiated to appeal to targeted audience segments and user journeys.
  • Own strategy, execution, and implementation of communications campaigns.
  • Write compelling communications that inspire support of 10,000 Degrees by showing our mission in practice—through the achievements of our students and alumni, and the impact of our programs and staff.
  • Proofread all communications for accuracy, brand messaging, clarity, grammar, and spelling.
  • Identify and report on KPIs, creating dashboards, and reporting for the team and senior leadership.
  • As primary Brand Officer, ensure that all communications (social media, videos, emails, program team flyers, etc.) align with brand messaging and look and feel.
  • Manage and disseminate all brand and communication assets for staff to use in their own materials.
  • Assist in procuring vendors and managing advertising.

Stories & Story Telling

  • Collect, capture, and catalog stories of impact from our students, alumni, supporters, and partners to weave into all communications.
  • Collaborate with the program teams to identify, develop and train students and alumni to act as media spokespeople in a way that honors their backgrounds and experiences.

Graphic Design

  • Manage Marketing Coordinator on creation of graphics and materials (e.g., flyers, social media, invites, eblasts) to support your communications initiatives.
  • Oversee strategy, design, distribution, and adherence to the use of of branded Canva and Google slide templates used by teams across 10,000 Degrees.

Social Media Management

  • Oversee social media strategy for all 10,000 Degrees accounts.
  • Utilize Later and Hootsuite to manage writing and posting on all 10,000 Degrees global social media accounts.
  • Plan social media calendar of posts, campaigns, collections, and series that include key 10,000 Degrees programs, events, deadlines, plus trending news.
  • Monitor and report social media engagement data.
  • Work with Virtual Engagement team on social media best practices and training.
  • Develop and deliver content specifically designed for social media

College Access, College Success & Scholarship Teams

  • Collaborate with teams across the organization to assess marketing needs

Qualifications:

For this position, we believe that you will be the most successful if you have the following:

Professional Experiences:

  • Minimum 2 years professional experience working in marketing or communications, ideally at a non-profit or educational organization.
  • Experience working in and/or managing graphic design.
  • Bachelor’s degree required

Skills & Characteristics:

  • Excellent marketing skills, and an understanding of how to create marketing campaigns that appeal to multiple audiences.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write effectively and persuasively.
  • Able to project manage, by prioritizing multiple projects and tasks and creating work plans and timelines.
  • Excellent administrative and organization skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft suite, Google suite, email and social media platforms.
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Canva a plus.
  • High level of professionalism: promptness, preparedness, professional appearance
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm and initiative and the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work effectively with multiple teams and people.
  • First-generation college graduates from low-income backgrounds a plus.
  • Spanish speaker a plus.

Location

This position is currently a hybrid role and you will be expected to come into our San Rafael office on occasion. However, the majority of this position will be remote.

Compensation Package:

  • This is a full-time position: 40 hours /week, 52 weeks /year
