The Opportunity

The 10,000 Degrees Student Engagement Coordinator position is an integral part of the 10,000 Degrees mission to support students from low-income backgrounds to and through college to positively impact their communities and the world. At 10,000 Degrees, we believe that education is the foundation of a just and equitable society. Students and their families as well as schools and local leaders each play a critical role in educating the next generation and strengthening the economic vitality and social health of our communities. The students we serve are 100% from low-income communities; 93% Black, Indigenous, Latinx, and people of color; and 92% first in family to attend college.

The Student Engagement Coordinator will support the development of student-facing curriculum and communication materials. In addition, they will support the coordination and delivery of our work with non-partner schools and CBOs. The role will be a part of our program team and will collaborate closely with both success and access programs to develop best practices for student engagement and overall curriculum needs.

This position will support our work in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Responsibilities

Organizational

  • Build and maintain excellent relationships with school personnel, community partners, program participants, and program staff
  • Participate in regular professional development activities, teamwork meetings, supervisorial weekly meetings, and special events and trainings (some of which are held in the evening)
  • Maintain up-to-date, accurate files and data; generate program reports for analysis
  • Support the development, revision, and delivery of select training materials
  • Travel as needed within assigned regions to school campuses, 10,000 Degrees offices, special event locations, team meetings, and retreats
  • Support the Development Team and represent 10,000 Degrees at fundraising events
  • Other duties as assigned

Student and family programming

  • Coordinate and deliver workshops and engagement events as requested to students and families attending non-partner schools or CBOs that are collaborating with 10,000 Degrees
  • Support coordination and follow-up of student-facing virtual events
  • Provide guidance and assistance to students attending a non-partner high school site regarding financial aid, college planning, and career planning
  • Provide tech support for program events as needed
  • Support special events as needed (summer programming, money matters, etc.)

Curriculum and in-house graphic design

  • Develop language and engagement best practices for student and family-facing materials and communications
  • Revise graphics and materials in Canva (such as flyers, presentations, social media posts, invitations, etc.) in support of program communication and curriculum
  • Revise, distribute, and manage the organization of Canva templates for use by various program teams across 10,000 Degrees
  • Brand Officer: Ensure brand look and feel are conveyed consistently through all designs produced

College Access and Success Program Communication Management

  • Collaborate with program teams to assess content needs
  • Track and complete incoming program marketing requests
  • Brand Officer: Ensure brand and content is consistent across multiple social media accounts
  • Research and train teams on social media engagement best practices for regional IG accounts
  • Develop and deliver content specifically designed for social media (campaigns, collections, series)
  • Use iMovie to repurpose event videos for sharing on our YouTube channel

For this position, we believe that you will be the most successful if you have the following:

Professional Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 2 years experience in supporting students in financial aid process and policies, college applications, and college access by the time the position starts

Skills & Characteristics

  • Bilingual in Spanish or Vietnamese preferred
  • First-generation college graduates from low-income backgrounds preferred
  • Alumni of 10,000 Degrees scholarships preferred
  • High level of professionalism: promptness, preparedness, professional appearance
  • Excellent presentation, writing, and communication skills
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, Google applications, and social media platforms
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm and initiative and the ability to work independently
  • Willing to learn and be self-reflective
  • Ability to work effectively with multiple teams and people
  • Graphic design experience required (Canva preferred)

Location

This position is currently a hybrid role and you will be expected to have a significant in-person presence at school locations, and attend events in the office regularly.

Compensation Package

  • This is a full-time position: $26.44 p/hour, 40 hours /week, 52 weeks /year
