10,000 Degrees Awarded $149,700 to expand San Francisco Programs

San Rafael, CA, June 20, 2019– 10,000 Degrees, a college success nonprofit, is set to receive a transformative $149,700 grant from Battery Powered to expand programming for high school and college students in San Francisco.

The one-time grant will support students in the San Francisco Unified School District as well as the 10,000 Degrees Community College Success Initiative. Fueled by 10,000 Degrees innovative Fellowship Program, this ongoing multi-campus initiative aims to double the six-year baccalaureate attainment rate of students who start at community college while simultaneously building capacity for program replication, conceptual scale, and sharing of best practices.

Battery Powered, the member-led giving program of The Battery, a private social club based in San Francisco, allocated $1.28 million to organizations supporting vulnerable youth in the Bay Area. Other awardees include programs helping youth navigate challenges in housing, foster care, and workforce development.

ABOUT 10,000 DEGREES:

10,000 Degrees, a 2019 California Nonprofit of the Year, combines personal support, academic counseling, scholarships, and financial aid management to help students from low-income backgrounds get to and through college. More than 80% of 10,000 Degrees four-year college students earn bachelor’s degrees. 10,000 Degrees currently serves students in 27 area high schools, 34 community colleges, and over 50 four-year colleges in California and across the nation.
