Monthly Memo, February 2018

A quick recap of the ongoing work by our amazing students and staff from the previous month.

8th Graders Visit College

On Monday, February 5, the entire 8th grade class from Altimira Middle School toured Sacramento State – for many students, this was their very first time on a college campus! This all-day tour was the first in the Altimira Middle School Pilot Program with more eye-opening tours to come!

More Support in Santa Rosa

Students attending Santa Rosa City Schools will soon receive additional financial aid management support due to extreme circumstances following the Sonoma County fires, in particular, students at Elsie Allen who currently have the highest need and lowest financial aid completion rate.

Great Start in San Francisco

Students at Balboa High School in San Francisco are clearly ready and eager for support from 10,000 Degrees! In collaboration with City College of San Francisco, our list of excited students continues to grow each week including close to 1,000 attendees at our college workshops.

Training for “Best Practices”

Not only do we support students and their families; we help education professionals do their best work, too! 10,000 Degrees recently conducted invaluable training for counselors and administrators in support of “Best Practices,” specifically in working with undocumented students.

Taking Charge in Marin City

As part of a fun 10,000 Degrees program to help students build competence and confidence, 7th and 8th graders at Bayside MLK, Jr. Academy are being trained to plan lessons and lead presentations to fellow students, receiving certificates when they do. After just four meetings, program enrollment tripled!
