Monthly Memo, February 2019

DEADLINE ALERT: March 2, 2019

The annual application deadline for FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and the California Dream Act is fast approaching! March 2nd is also the deadline for the 10,000 Degrees Undergraduate Scholarships application. Did you know? By submitting the 10,000 Degrees Undergraduate Scholarships application, students automatically apply to ALL available undergraduate scholarships currently administered through 10,000 Degrees. Let’s do this!

More Momentum in San Francisco

Program Manager Saga Apostol Guedez and College Success Fellow Ana Anguiano recently hosted two field trips to Community College of San Francisco (CCSF) with Balboa High School (BHS) juniors and seniors. Ana is also gearing up for the BHS “Money Matters” financial awareness workshop scheduled for March 18. Thank you to volunteers from First Republic Bank who are helping make this event an incredible experience for 10,000 Degrees students!

Summer Bridge “Best Practices”

Because 10,000 Degrees knows collaboration is key to achieving sustainable success for our students, the CCSF Bridge to Success Team, including Program Director Chris Gonzales and Program Managers Tania Requenes and Saga Apostol Guedez, along with College of Marin (COM) Summer Bridge Coordinator, met with CCSF staff to share “best practices” around 10,000 Degrees ongoing and very successful collaboration with COM. Great teamwork!

Putting Down Roots in Napa

10,000 Degrees continues to ramp up efforts to provide student support in Napa. College Access Fellow, Brittney Edmondson is currently meeting with eligible Vintage High School students to complete applications for financial aid and Napa Valley College (NVC). Brittney also recently connected with local donors at a 10,000 Degrees salon. She’s also putting together a spring event to onboard the many new students signing up for support. Way to go Brittney!

Student Ambassadors Retreat

At a fun and fruitful Winter Retreat, 10,000 Degrees Student Ambassadors (current students supporting 10,000 Degrees students on their respective campuses) reconnected to review their work from last semester. Participating Ambassadors are enrolled at Santa Rosa Junior College, the College of Marin, City College of San Francisco, Sonoma State University, San Francisco State University, and the Universities of California at Davis and Merced. Thank you!
