Financial Aid Push in Full Swing!
10,000 Degrees student support staff have been eagerly preparing for the start of the college financial aid season, which opened on October 1, 2018. Right now, 10,000 Degrees students throughout the North Bay are busy making sure they successfully submit their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the CA Dream Act Application, where applicable. Did you know? 10,000 Degrees students take on 80% less loan debt than the average student.
National Spotlight on 10,000 Degrees
College Success Managers Halea Waters and Tania Requenes, along with College of Marin’s Julian Solis, hosted an hour-long presentation at the annual conference for the National College Access Network (NCAN). The powerful workshop highlighted best practices for partnering between community colleges and non-governmental organizations like 10,000 Degrees, specifically around our highly-successful Summer Bridge program. Great teamwork!
City College of San Francisco Latest
San Francisco Program Manager Saga Apostol Guedez continues to onboard our City College of San Francisco student cohort, including the 110 students who have successfully enrolled at CCSF from Balboa High School. Currently busy with student financial aid renewals, Saga is also meeting with various CCSF program directors, such as the Latino/a Services Network, to help 10,000 Degrees students access even more on-campus support.
10,000 Degrees “Back to School”
College Access Fellows Joanna Dimas and Katia Ambrocio Villa attended Back to School Nights at San Rafael and Terra Linda High Schools where they shared information about 10,000 Degrees student support. They also helped parents learn how to prepare their children for their senior years and college applications. Joanna also advised 9th and 10th graders, including discussing how students can make sure they meet college-eligible graduation requirements.
Summer Internship Pilot Launched
Building on the Meritus College Fund internship program, 10,000 Degrees Career & Internship Manager Gwen Snider in collaboration with College Success Program Director Scott BonDurant have launched a pilot of the 10,000 Degrees Summer Internship program. Interested college juniors submitted applications for the 2019 Summer Internship cycle and will soon receive support regarding resumes, cover letters, and potential interviews. More to come!
