The Young Professionals and Alumni Council

The Young Professionals and Alumni Council is a group of young business leaders and 10,000 Degrees alumni who support the 10,000 Degrees mission through strategic initiatives. The Council began in 2013 and represents a diverse mix of backgrounds with a common interest in giving back to the community by supporting students from low-income backgrounds in pursuit of their higher education and career goals.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR ENGAGEMENT

The Young Professionals and Alumni Council plays a critical role in the planning and implementation of events/programs that support the organizational objectives of fundraising, corporate engagement and supporting our students:

FUNDRAISING INITIATIVES:

Using diverse development strategies, the Council raises two student scholarships annually. Past fundraising initiatives have included:

  • Art Auction
  • Barry’s Bootcamp Fundraiser
  • Guest bartending fundraiser evenings

CORPORATE ENGAGEMENT INITIATIVES:

Leverage connections within your organization and the business community to:

  • Provide contacts or introductions within a company to corporate citizenship and human resources departments and diversity and inclusion groups and departments
  • Coordinate career development workshops internally for 10,000 Degrees scholars
  • Secure Internship placements for 10,000 Degrees scholars

STUDENT ENGAGEMENT INITIATIVES:

  • Volunteer for Student Workshops (including Money Matters! Budgeting for College workshops that are held across the Bay Area). Most take place during the day.
  • Create/participate in career networking events for our students
